Rajinikanth’s next big film Coolie is turning into a full-blown phenomenon even before it hits theatres. With almost a week left, advance bookings in some regions are already breaking records. In Kerala, thousands of tickets vanished within minutes of sales opening, and shows are being scheduled as early as sunrise to meet demand. Overseas markets are also pouring in strong numbers, crossing the multi-million dollar mark.
Industry watchers say the excitement is not just about Rajinikanth. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s action-packed brand, a star-studded cast that includes names like Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, and Upendra, plus a chart-topping dance number by Pooja Hegde, have all combined to create massive buzz. The trailer may have split opinions, but nothing has dampened expectations. In fact, Tamil Nadu is already preparing for possible all-time record box office figures.
Promotions are running at full throttle. Ads are splashed on metro trains, Amazon delivery boxes, and across city streets. The marketing will keep going until the August 14 release, with no expense spared.
Despite competition from big releases like War 2, which has locked most premium and IMAX screens nationwide, Coolie is expected to open huge. Trade estimates predict a first-day collection that could easily touch ₹150 crore, with the potential to go even higher if the word of mouth clicks.
