Gender inequality is one of the predominant issues in today’s times in several places. Especially when it is visible in the workplace, it puts anyone off. Although, it is widely discussed, the gender inequality in the film industry is something that can not be ignored.
National Award-winning actress Kriti Sanon, who is enjoying her top position in Bollywood, also had to witness it at times. On the occasion of her appointment as UNFPA India’s honorary ambassador of Gender Equality, she shared her thoughts at an event.
Kriti Sanon shared a lot of her personal experiences with gender norms, revealing that while she grew up in a progressive household, the inequality around her was impossible to ignore. Kriti thanked her parents for never restricting her and her sister because of their gender. However, she also acknowledged the fact that her mother did not have that privilege while going up.
And when it comes to the film industry, the easy and better example that Kriti gives is how the male actors are provided with better rooms and cars. “It hasn’t happened too many times, but little things like the male actor getting a better car or a better room… It’s not about the car, but about not making me feel smaller because I’m a woman. Just make it equal,” she said.
Kriti also highlighted that often times, the assistant directors call female actors first and then keep waiting for the male actors at the shoots, which she makes it a point to tell them to not do that, with an intention to change the mindset.
On the work front, Kriti was last seen in Do Patti. She will next be seen in Tere Ishk Mein and Cocktail 2.
