Malayalam cinema has been enjoying a strong phase over the last few years, with films like Manjummel Boys and Thudarum proving that audiences are ready to embrace new stories. Adding to this streak of success is Lokah: Chapter One – Chandra, directed by Dominic Arun. Released on August 28 as the first in a planned five-part series, the film has been drawing crowds in big numbers ever since.
Mounted on a budget of around ₹30 crore, Lokah has already crossed ₹200 crore at the global box office. On Monday, Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films, which produced the project, announced another major feat. The film has become the all-time number one Malayalam movie on BookMyShow in terms of ticket sales.
Lokah leads with 4.51 million tickets sold, narrowly surpassing Thudarum which also stands at 4.51 million. Manjummel Boys follows with 4.30 million, while Empuraan and Aavesham stand at 3.75 million and 3 million tickets respectively.
With the film maintaining steady momentum, trade circles are watching closely to see if it can touch the ₹250 crore worldwide milestone. If it does, Lokah will become only the second Malayalam film after L2: Empuraan to reach that mark.
The film features Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead role, with Naslen and Chandu Salimkumar in key parts. Tamil choreographer Sandy makes his debut as the villain. Dulquer Salmaan and Tovino Thomas also make cameo appearances.
