The much-awaited third installment of the Drishyam series has officially begun shooting. Starring Mohanlal, the film went on floors on September 22 with a traditional pooja ceremony.
Recently, Mohanlal was announced as the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest honour in cinema. He will receive the award at the 71st National Film Awards in New Delhi, becoming only the second Malayali to do so after filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan.
Drishyam tells the story of Georgekutty, a cable TV operator who goes to great lengths to protect his family after a crime. The first film, released in 2013, was a major hit, and Drishyam 2, which followed in 2021, continued the story several years later. The series has also been remade in Hindi, Telugu, and other languages.
Director Jeethu Joseph, returning for Drishyam 3, said the new film will focus on Georgekutty’s family life and explore how they are living years after the last story. He added that the film will lean more towards a family drama than a thriller.
The Telugu version of Drishyam 3 is also expected soon. Actor Venkatesh, who plays Rambabu in the Telugu remake, is likely to begin shooting after completing his upcoming films Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu and his project with director Trivikram
