Recently, during the pre release event of Kantara where Jr NTR attended as the chief guest, hero and director Rishab Shetty spoke only in Kannada. That moment sparked a backlash on social media and even led to calls for boycotting the film.
While his intention might not have been wrong, the choice of language created unwanted noise and even risked affecting the film’s openings. Adding to the situation, the Andhra Pradesh government’s approval for a hike in ticket prices triggered another round of criticism.
With this background, today’s Vijayawada event at Gollapudi Expo Grounds is being seen as an important moment. Rishab Shetty is expected to address the controversy and clarify his stand. He may also express gratitude to Pawan Kalyan, who reportedly took the initiative for the ticket price revision in Andhra Pradesh.
There is a chance that Shetty will explain why he chose Kannada during the earlier event and may try to connect with audiences in Telugu this time. Though not fluent, he can manage a few lines in Telugu, which might be enough to ease the tension.
Kantara’s first part became a surprise blockbuster in Telugu despite releasing late compared to the Kannada version and with limited expectations. But things are different now. The business stakes are higher, Mythri Movie Makers has acquired the rights, and ticket rates are being pushed to the upper range. All this makes the opening crucial for Kantara Chapter 1. Today’s event could play a key role in setting the tone before the release.
