Star kid Dhruv Vikram, son of versatile actor Vikram, has been trying his best to carve out a niche for himself in the film industry and live up to the expectations of his father’s legacy. He made his onscreen debut five years ago with the Tamil remake of Telugu blockbuster drama Arjun Reddy and scored brownie points for his performance. Later, he teamed up with his father for ‘Mahaan’ which released directly through OTT platform.
During a recent interview ahead of his upcoming release Bison, Dhruv Vikram said he was completely disappointed with the direct release of Mahaan instead of theatrical release because he feels that the valuable efforts by him and Vikram went down the drain. Dhruv further admitted that working with his father for Mahaan made him very happy but the contrasting roles created some distance between them.
Directed by talented Tamil director Karthik Subbaraj, Mahaan started in 2020 but faced significant delays due to COVID pandemic and eventually released through OTT in February 2022. The film received critical acclaim for the commendable performances of Vikram and Bobby Simha who essayed prominent roles. Dhruv Vikram also impressed with his role.
Had the film released in theatres, it might have brought more laurels to both Dhruv and Vikram and also benefitted the makers in commercial terms. Moreover, Dhruv would have gained more star image among the audience with a theatrical release. While some fans argue that Mahaan would have clicked at the box office, others opine that opting for OTT helped the producer recover his investment.
Meanwhile, Dhruv is busy promoting his Diwali release Bison, which is directed by Mari Selvaraj.
