Pradeep Ranganathan, who became popular with films like Love Today and Dragon, is back with his third lead role in Dude. The film, written and directed by Keerthiswaran, released on Friday and has started well at the box office.
On its opening day, Dude sold nearly 17,000 tickets per hour on Book My Show, one of India’s leading ticketing platforms. With the weekend and Diwali festival ahead, the film is expected to see further growth in ticket sales.
The film’s opening surpasses the peak hourly ticket sales of several major releases this year. Ajith Kumar’s Vidaa Muyarchi reached 15,370 tickets per hour, Dhanush’s Idli Kadai sold around 14,000 per hour, and Vijay Sethupathi’s Thalaivan Thalaivii sold 12,500. Even Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s ThugLife, which had high expectations, managed only 12,000 tickets per hour.
This shows that audiences are responding more to engaging content than just star power. Dude features music by Sai Abhyankar and is produced by Mythri Movie Makers. The film is set to continue its run during the upcoming festival days.
