Being Chiranjeevi’s Son Is Not Easy: Ram Pothineni

In Indian cinema, star kids often enter the film industry following their parents’ footsteps. While many call it nepotism and argue that such actors get easy opportunities, there’s another side to the story. The truth is, star kids might get a smoother start, but the expectations that follow are massive. One such example is megastar Chiranjeevi and his son Ram Charan, who constantly face comparisons and public pressure.

Actor Ram Pothineni recently spoke about this during his appearance on the show Jayammu Nischayammu Raa with Jagapathi Babu. He recalled meeting Chiranjeevi during the time of his debut film Devadasu, which was a hit. “My director YVS Chowdary used to tell me that I wasn’t a star kid, so I needed to work harder with every film,” Ram said.

He shared how meeting Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan for the first time made him nervous as a newcomer. “At that time, I wished I had a father like Chiranjeevi garu who could introduce me to big directors. But later I realized I had no pressure and could simply focus on acting. I feel bad for them because the pressure they face is unimaginable,” he said.

Ram added that people often misunderstand nepotism. “It’s not just about opportunities, it’s also about expectations and the weight of a legacy,” he explained.

Speaking of Ram Charan, he’s one of the few actors in Indian cinema successfully carrying forward a legendary legacy. His dedication and performances continue to inspire many aspiring actors.

On the work front, Ram Pothineni is currently shooting for Andhra King Taluka, directed by Mahesh Babu P and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. The film is set to release on November 28.
