Vishal To Compete With Dhanush, But Not as An Actor!

Actor Vishal recently announced his wedding with Sai Dhansika and is also on the verge of making a successful comeback in career. It’s been a long time since Vishal scored a hit as an actor but now, he also shocked many by announcing his entry into direction. The Tamil media circles say that Vishal is competing with Dhanush, but not as an actor, but as a director.

Vishal will wear the director’s hat for his next film, Makutam. Ravi Arasu was earlier confirmed as the director, and the team released the first look posters as well. But now, Vishal has announced his directorial debut with this project. He claimed that the circumstances compelled him to make the decision, which was driven by a sense of responsibility rather than compulsion.

In general, in Tamil cinema, among the generation of actors to which Vishal belongs, only Dhanush is a successful actor-director. Although he made his debut as a director with Power Paandi long back, he actively returned to it only recently with Raayan, Jabilamma Neeku Antha Kopama and Idly Kottu. Except for the recent release, Dhanush scored hits with other films as a director.

Cut to the present, Dhanush is simultaneously travelling as an actor and as a director. The success rate at which he is operating is also pretty decent. Very recently, Jayam Ravi also floated a production house and announced his entry into direction while having a successful career as an actor.

But, the case of Vishal is different. It’s been a while since he tasted a hit as an actor. Although Mark Anthony ended as an average grosser, all his other movies, Rathnam and Latthi, could not impress the audiences. The only ray of hope from him is Thupparivalan 2, which is in production. However, it is getting delayed. Amidst all this, Vishal is acting and directing in Makutam, which is a huge test for his survival in the current times.

Vishal is picking the old age gangster subjects and routine commercial films rather than what is working at the box office. As an actor, there is a lot of unlearning he has to do before making it big. Even before that, he is also unleashing his directorial skills. We have to see to what extent he will flourish in this competition with contemporaries like Dhanush.
