SP Balasubrahmanyam is one of the greatest singers the Indian film industry has ever seen. With more than 40000 songs to his credit, he is loved and respected across all South Indian languages and beyond.
The Telangana government recently installed a statue of SPB at the famous Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad. But unexpectedly, a group of protesters opposed the statue. Posing as Telangana movement activists, they argued that only Telangana artists such as Gaddar or Ande Sri should be honored at this venue.
Their claim is that SPB is not from Telangana and therefore does not deserve a statue there.
However, many people on social media strongly disagree. They argue that SPB is a proud son of the Telugu states and that it is unfortunate to see such division over a legend who brought global recognition to Telugu music.
One user commented that when people from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and even Hindi-speaking states proudly celebrate SPB as their own, it is painful to see Telugu people opposing his legacy in his own home region.
