Renowned Producer AVM Saravanan Passes Away

Well known Tamil producer and owner of renowned filmmaking company AVM Productions, M. Saravanan passed away on Thursday morning due to age related ailments in Chennai. His body will be kept for public homage at AVM Studios. He is aged 86 and regarded as one of the stalwarts of Kollywood. 

Born in 1939, M Saravanan was son of AV Meiyappan, the founder of AVM Productions. He later took forward the legacy of his father and delivered quality films under his banner along with his brother M. Balasubramaniam. He also served as the Sheriff of Madras in 1986. 

After taking charge of the studio and production company in 1950s, M Saravanan played a significant role in expanding the reputation beyond Tamil cinema. In the next five decades, AVM Productions created a brand for its filmmaking style and delivered numerous blockbusters in several languages. The banner produced films in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. 

Some of the notable films produced by AVM under the tutelage of Saravanan include Leader, Sivaji, Gemini, Naanum Oru Penn, Samsaram Adhu Minsaram, Ayan. He also won two filmfare awards as a producer. His son MS Guhan is also into production and continues to head the company. After 2010, AVM Productions stopped bankrolling feature films and ventured into making web series. 

As soon as the tragic news came out, condolences from film spectrum and political field started pouring in from all quarters towards M Saravanan.
