The government of Telangana passed a GO yesterday, confirming the ticket price hikes for the film Akhanda 2. However, the makers received a shock today with the Telangana High Court announcing the suspension of the GO. A lunch motion petition has been filed in the Telangana High Court on the issue.
Advocate Srinivas Reddy has filed a petition seeking cancellation of the GO. Following They Call Him OG in September, the Telangana High Court has now suspended the government order permitting special shows and a ticket price hike for Akhanda2.
For OG, the revision happened after the first weekend. More or less, it will be the same situation for Akhanda 2 as well. It’s tough to roll back now, especially with most premieres shows already posting housefulls.
As per the GO, the government of Telangana allowed the hikes of ticket prices from the 12th to 14th of this month. A hike of 50 rupees per ticket is allowed in single screens and a hike of 100 rupees is allowed in multiplexes. The ticket price for the premiere show on December 11th was fixed at Rs. 600.
It is high time for both the film federation and the government to settle this issue once and for all, so that such problems don’t repeat in the future.
These last-minute hurdles not only create confusion but also affect audience bookings and the overall release momentum. A permanent solution is the need of the hour for smoother film releases going forward.
