Bollywood Misses A Trick Again, Fails To Capitalise South Market

For many decades, Bollywood films dominated Indian cinema as audience across the country embraced them without any language barrier. There was a time in the past when moviegoers in big cities of South India used to encourage big-ticket Hindi films very well. After the global rise of South cinema, the relevance for Bollywood movies started diminishing among audience here. But, there is still adequate market for Hindi movies. 

Occassionally, notable Bollywood films make a splash in South India. The only drawback is that they are not capitalising on the market by planning simultaneously release in different languages of South. Especially, Telugu audience love some Bollywood films very much and always show huge patronage towards Hindi actors and their films. They should at least dub films in Telugu to tap into the growing market. 

In recent times, Hindi films like Chhaava and Dhurandhar witnessed tremendous occupancies in major Telugu cities like Hyderabad and Vijayawada. Though there was no direct release of dubbed versions in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, many shows screening only the Hindi version saw terrific revenues. 

During the release of Chhaava, one of the biggest grossing films in 2025, the makers released the Telugu version way too late after the original film and failed to capture the market. Now, they repeated the same mistake with Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar as well. Dhurandhar also registered impressive revenues and housefulls in both Telugu states despite not having a direct release. 

Trade analysts and industry circles feel that Bollywood has once again missed the trick with Dhurandhar. Many suggest that Bollywood should simultaneously release Hindu films in South languages, especially in Telugu version so that there will be steady rise in footfalls down South because of the adulation for cinema from audience here.
