Akhanda Is a Superhero: Boyapati Sreenu Defends Trolls

It is not new that whenever a Nandamuri Balakrishna film releases, especially his collaborations with Boyapati Sreenu, a section of the audience scrutinizes the logic behind the over-the-top action sequences. From the protagonist kicking villains into the skies to exaggerated combat moments, this has been a recurring discussion. The same debate has resurfaced with the recently released Akhanda 2.

Akhanda 2 released on Friday and opened to mixed responses. While some felt the film lacked the emotional depth of the first part, others raised complaints about the exaggerated action sequences. Addressing this in a post-release promotional interview, director Boyapati Sreenu explained the logic behind the film’s action design.

“When we opened the film, we clearly established that Akhanda undergoes Asta Digbandhana for 12 years to achieve Asta Siddhi. Once he attains that, he becomes a superhuman, equivalent to a superhero. For someone like him, logic or magic is not required in the conventional sense. If you look closely, there is logic. We explained in the film that he is exceptional due to Asta Siddhi,” Boyapati said.

He further added, “With Asta Siddhi, we can go to any extent in portraying the character. Even then, in this part, we limited it largely to the use of weapons. He actually has powers to become microscopic or gigantic, but we did not use those abilities in this film. We have kept them for future parts.”

Boyapati Sreenu thus clarified the intent and reasoning behind the action sequences in Akhanda 2. While a section of the audience continues to question the approach, there is also a strong audience base that enjoys the film at that heightened level. At the box office, Akhanda 2 opened with good numbers. The second day also reported healthy occupancies, and the weekend is shaping up positively.
