M.S. Subbulakshmi was one of the most respected and celebrated voices in the world of music. With a career that lasted over seven decades, she was the first musician to receive the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour. A biopic on such an iconic figure would be a significant project.
Sai Pallavi is reportedly in talks to reprise the role of M.S. Subbulakshmi in the biopic. The film is said to be produced by Allu Aravind’s Geetha Arts and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Goutham Tinnanuri, known for films like Jersey and Malli Raava.
Sai Pallavi is regarded as one of the finest actors of her generation. Though she was often seen in girl-next-door roles earlier, she is currently taking on the biggest role of her career in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, where she plays Sita. The film is being made in two parts and is slated for release during Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027. Sai Pallavi is known for choosing films where her role connects well with the audience and has a clear purpose.
Given the acclaimed director and prestigious production house associated with the project, Sai Pallavi is likely to sign the film, unless she feels unprepared for the responsibility of portraying such a legendary figure.
Fondly known as M.S. Amma, M.S. Subbulakshmi played a major role in taking Carnatic music to the global stage. She became the first Indian to perform at the United Nations General Assembly in 1966 and also performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and Royal Albert Hall. Along with classical concerts, her devotional songs reached millions across the country.
M.S. Subbulakshmi also appeared in a few films, most notably Meera, where her portrayal of the saint-poet became iconic. More than just a great singer, she was a cultural icon whose music, humility, and service left a lasting impact on Indian arts and society.
