Monday Numbers Drop – What Next Akhanda?

Akhanda 2 managed to post decent numbers in its first three days. However, Monday brought the kind of shock the trade was worried about. Reports say the film collected only around ₹6 crore gross worldwide on Monday.

While regions like Nizam and parts of the Ceded belt are still holding reasonably well, the overall trend is worrying. Exhibitors point out that ticket prices were not reduced in many areas despite mixed word of mouth, which clearly affected footfalls. Empty theatres on weekdays are now ringing alarm bells.

So far, the total gross is estimated to be close to ₹90 crore. That means only about 50 percent recovery has been achieved, with break even still a long way off. The mixed talk has started showing a strong impact. More worrying for the makers is the poor performance in North India. Trade analysts say the heavy Boyapati style elevations did not connect with Hindi audiences.

Though a few episodes were appreciated, the film failed to get strong and unanimous talk from the public. Promotions also did not seem to make much difference. On top of this, the strong run of Dhurandhar has diverted audience attention.

At the current pace, trade circles feel Akhanda 2 may find it tough to recover fully in the Telugu states. With Avatar 3 releasing this Friday, its positive talk could further affect Akhanda 2. A success meet was already held in Hyderabad, and it remains to be seen if the team plans any events in Andhra Pradesh.
