Music wizard AR Rahman, who is celebrated for his timeless tunes in chartbuster songs, is set to don the grease paint for the first time in his three decade career. According to the latest reports, the Oscar winning composer is going to debut as an actor in Prabhudeva starrer upcoming comedy film Moonwalk.
Though Rahman previously appeared in a handful of cameos in songs, he has never played a full length character so far. Now, he will come under the arclights to play the fictional character of a director named AR Rahman in this film, which will be helmed by Manoj NS and bankrolled by Behindwoods productions.
Rahman will be seen as an angry young director in this film which also marks another first for him because he sung all five songs in the album. This is the first time in his career that the entire soundtrack will has his unified music voice.
When the director approached AR Rahman with the role, the latter has immediately agreed to showcase his acting talent and signed the dotted line. Both Prabhudeva and Rahman are collaborating for the first time and already shot together one song which turned out very well.
AR Rahman is said to be have a good time while shooting for his scenes as the entire team was so happy seeing him perform as an actor. While Prabhudeva will be portraying the role of a choreographer, Rahman will be his film director.
The ensemble cast also includes Aju Varghese, Arjun Ashokan, Satz, Sushmitha, Nishma, Swaminathan, Redin Kingsley, Rajendran, Deepa Akka, Santhosh Jacob and Ramkumar. Moonwalk is scheduled to release in theatres in May 2026.
