Pongal season is usually considered auspicious for the Tamil people. Surprisingly this festival season, there is not a single Tamil film trying to entertain the audiences big time. With Jana Nayagan’s postponement and Parashakthi’s last minute problems, there is a discussion that the Tamil cinema is under scrutiny.
In a latest development, Karthi’s Va Vathiyaar also faced a big trouble. Madras High Court orders to publicly auction the rights of Vaa Vaathiyaar movie for recovering alleged unpaid dues of ₹21 crores by the movie’s producer to the financier. Until the dues are cleared, the court has permanently stayed the release of the film across all platforms including theatres, OTT and digital.
As Prakashakti finally received the censor certificate just one day before its release, it is releasing only in Tamil for now, which is a concerning factor. If the movie receives negative talk, it may not even get a decent opening in the Telugu states when it releases here later. So, the film needs strong positive word-of-mouth to perform well in Telugu states and other regions too.
Coming to Jana Nayagan, The division bench of the Madras High Court has temporarily stayed the single judge’s order directing the CBFC to grant a UA certificate to Jana Nayagan. The next hearing is scheduled for January 21, after the Pongal holidays.
In such a critical scenario, Tamil cinema is undergoing a critical phase with several big stars’ films going through unexpected hurdles. Hope this crisis get resolved soon.
