Actress Apologises After Weighing Pet Dog at Medaram Jatara

Matters related to God and faith often lead to serious controversies if one crosses the line. A few months ago, one anchor faced strong backlash for her comments about prasadam at Tirumala, and the criticism did not subside even after she apologised. Now, young actress Tina Sravya has landed in a similar controversy.

At the Medaram Jatara, it is a long standing tradition to offer jaggery based on the weight of children as part of a vow near the temple. However, Tina Sravya weighed her pet dog and offered jaggery accordingly to fulfil her vow, which triggered widespread outrage.

Many criticised the act, questioning how a dog could be used to fulfil a religious vow and saying it hurt the sentiments of devotees.

To prevent the issue from escalating further, Tina Sravya quickly issued an apology. She explained that her pet dog is 12 years old and had undergone tumour surgery. With the hope of its recovery, she had prayed to Sammakka, and after the dog recovered as expected, she went to fulfil her vow.

She clarified that since the vow was made for her dog, she offered jaggery equal to its weight. She stated that her actions were driven by devotion and love, not by any intention to disrespect anyone or hurt religious sentiments.

Tina also said she later realised that her act went against the traditions of the Medaram Jatara and tribal customs. She apologised to anyone who was hurt by her mistake, promised such errors would not be repeated, affirmed her respect for traditions, and requested that the controversy be put to rest. With her apology, the issue can be considered concluded.
