Atleast They Should Give Respect To The Title

Karthi’s new film Va Vathiyar landed on OTT just fourteen days after its theatrical release, catching fans completely off guard. The Telugu version, announced earlier as Anna gaaru Vostaru, had generated decent buzz after a formal announcement last December and special promotional events in Hyderabad featuring Karthi himself. Naturally, expectations were high among Telugu movie lovers.

Karthi is usually known for being careful with dubbing and localization. In the past, he has taken personal interest in giving his own voice and ensuring that cultural references, language on signboards, and contextual elements are adapted properly for Telugu audiences. That reputation made the OTT version of Anna Garu Vostaru even more disappointing.

The core issue lies in how casually the Telugu version has been handled. The original Tamil film heavily revolves around references to MGR, who is central to the story’s emotional and ideological foundation. Since Telugu audiences do not share that same connection, the makers attempted to replace those references with legendary actor NTR in the dubbed version. On paper, the idea makes sense.

But on screen, the execution turns into a mess. Visuals continue to show MGR, while the background dialogue suddenly switches to NTR references. The result is a complete lack of sync that instantly pulls viewers out of the film. Instead of creating emotional resonance, the scenes feel confusing and awkward.

For a film that is already struggling content wise, this careless approach makes things worse. Viewers who thought they could at least enjoy a decent home viewing experience were left frustrated by the mismatch and poor adaptation. It feels less like a genuine attempt to connect with Telugu audiences and more like a rushed checkbox exercise.

Adding to the anger is the decision to not upload a proper standalone Telugu version on OTT. Instead, the platform has provided only a Telugu audio option, leaving visuals untouched. Many cinema lovers are openly criticizing this move, saying that the makers failed to show even basic respect to the Telugu title they proudly announced earlier.

Social media is filled with posts calling out this negligence. Fans argue that if the film was promoted specifically for Telugu audiences, the least the team could have done was ensure a coherent and respectful presentation. Unfortunately, the backlash seems to be turning into nothing more than a cry in the wilderness.

At the very least, they should have respected the title they gave it.
