Will Dhurandhar’s OTT Run Carry the Hype Till the Sequel?

Bollywood silently delivered the biggest blockbuster in Hindi cinema with Dhurandhar. This Ranveer Singh film did not have much momentum before the release, but it could generate a very positive word of mouth later and went on an absolute blockbuster run at the ticket counter.

After nearly completing its theatrical run by ending up as one of the highest crossing Hindi films, Dhurandhar is now set for its OTT debut on Netflix. 

Reportedly, the patriotic action film will be streaming on Netflix from tonight. However, an official communication to this effect from Netflix has not been made till now, and we have to see whether the film would actually debut tonight, which is likely to be the case, nevertheless.

Another point that must be noted here is that this Ranveer Singh film will be hoping for a strong run on OTT to boost the sequel prospect. 

We have all seen the kind of rampage that Pushpa created on Amazon prime after the release of the first part. The songs and Pushpa mannerisms grew on the global audience and Prime video recorded huge streaming numbers for this Allu Arjun film. This ultimately cultivated into generic hype on the sequel that released three years later, and it went on a wild run at the box office.

A similar scenario was observed in the case of KGF as well, considering it could cater to the action loving audience and set the stage for the sequel.

And now we have to see if Dhurandhar can go on an equally brilliant run on OTT and set the right stage for the sequel. Further penetration into the untapped theatrical market and a wide reach on OTT can certainly help the sequel, and this is exactly what the makers would be wanting for considering the second part is going to release in March.
