245K Jobs Lost in Few Months, What’s Happening?

The year 2026 has started on an alarming note for the tech industry, with a massive number of layoffs reported in the first month.

According to the latest reports from the tech sector, nearly 245,000 jobs were lost during the final quarter of 2025 and January 2026 combined.

Even major global companies like Amazon, Intel and UPS are firing a significant portion of their global headcount, just to maintain the affiliation with the AI orientation. This has essentially mentioned that the working population is in deep trouble now.

The layoffs hitting different:

– Amazon: 30K corporate roles
– Intel: 24K (20% of workforce)
– UPS: 48K through automation
– Tyson Foods: 4.9K plant closures
– Meta: 1.5K (pivoting to AI)
