Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay is finding himself in a legal mess ever so frequently. Recently, it was the case of his Jana Nayagan film which moved the court over censor complications. And now, Vijay has faced a setback at a personal capacity at the Madras High Court.
According to the latest flash reports from Tamil media, the Madras High Court on Friday dismissed a plea by Thalapathy Vijay, thereby upholding the Rs 1.5 crore penalty imposed on him by the Income Tax Department.
This is in connection with alleged undisclosed income of Rs 15 crore for the financial year 2015–16 when Vijay had a big release in the form of Puli. It was alleged that Vijay did not disclose this additional revenue until the IT department sleuths searched his properties and found discrepancies.
The IT department had subsequently imposed a fine of ₹1.5 crore for Vijay, which he had later challenged at the Madras High Court. But Vijay did not find any relief in this matter as the court had dismissed his petition and he might be bound to pay the fine that is mentioned above.
The ruling clears the way for tax authorities to proceed through legal means, but Vijay can still approach the ITAT on other grounds which is again a different issue altogether.
