Something extremely shocking has happened in the national capital of Delhi as it is being established in principal that a film unit pumped fake news about the shocking rise in kidnappings in the city.
Earlier there were speculations that more than 500 women and girls were reported missing in Delhi during the first 15 days of 2026, accounting for nearly two-thirds of all missing cases, according to police data. Of the 807 people reported missing between January 1 and 15, as many as 509 were women and girls.
However, Delhi Police on Friday dismissed viral claims of a dramatic rise in missing girls as “hype” fueled by paid social media promotions, vowing strict action against those exploiting public fear for monetary gains.
The clarification follows widespread panic over reports alleging over 800 girls vanished in the capital in just 15 days.
Previously, a similar stunt was attempted in Mumbai. However, Mumbai Police debunked it immediately and launched formal complaints against those spreading the misinformation.
Social media research circuit criticising the makers of one particular film for spreading false information and leaving the public panicked with such news about kidnaps and missing women and children.
