Post the debacle of Akhanda 2, Balakrishna is silently working on his next with Gopichand Malineni. Until recently, strong reports suggested that Balakrishna’s much-talked-about film would be heading for a Sankranthi 2027 clash, setting the stage for a high-voltage festive battle.
However, industry sources close to us have something else to say. The latest buzz is that the Balakrishna–Gopichand project will now arrive much earlier and is being planned for a Dussehra 2026 release. This unexpected move has surprised many, especially trade circles that were already planning for a big Sankranthi 2027 release.
Interestingly, this change clears the way for Balayya’s film with Harish Shankar to lock the Sankranthi 2027 slot as originally intended, which is rumoured to be a proper Sankranthi-style entertainer.
If this plan materializes, it would mean two Balakrishna films hitting theatres within a gap of just three months, which is no easy task for any star, even one of his stature.
But managing promotions, audience expectations, and box office momentum within such a short span will be a huge challenge.
At the same time, Balayya fans are thrilled at the prospect of back-to-back releases. An official confirmation is still awaited, but if these plans hold, Balakrishna is gearing up for an action-packed phase at the box office. Let’s see what happens.
