Small Films Easy Target For Censor Board?

Censoring of films is always a controversial topic. Many even oppose the fundamental idea of censoring in a Democratic country while some feel it is necessary to censor films to safeguard children.

But then, there is a discussion if the Censor Board is leaving important things and is after smaller things in recent times.

We do not know if there is any change in the Censor Board but suddenly they are after the movie titles of small films.

In December, a small film Vanara had to change their title to Vanaveera and their entire promotional campaign fell apart.

Recently, there was a film titled Chaiwala. The Board objected to the title as it may refer to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and they have to change the title to ‘Nawab Cafe’.

Couple Friendly released last week was one of the cleanest films in recent times but they were given ‘A’ certificate because the board thought ‘Couple Friendly’ is an adults-only title.

And today, the makers of Suhas’ Hey Bhagwan had to change their title to Hey Balwanth.

Film Promotions have become very costly in recent times. The makers spent Lakhs on Pressmeets, Coverage, and Digital Promotions. They go to the Censor only at the last minute and if they have to change the title, precious amount of money and time is already lost.

The Board is especially after the small films which already struggle to grab the attention of the audience. Once such last-minute hurdles are faced, the producers are losing any further hope.

Incidentally, the Board is not after the violence and sleaze they are supposed to control. It is an open fact that violence has increased by multiple folds in Big films but how many Pan-India films got A certificate in recent times?

If the Board is so strict, how can films like Kill or Marco come out easily? That implies justice is different for big films and small films when it comes to the Censor Board.

In the case of Jananayakan, Vijay fans alleges that the Censor Board is being used as a tool to trouble Vijay. In short, the board is in news for all sorts of wrong reasons.
