Shocker: Court Halts the Release of Kerala Story 2

The controversy around Kerala Story 2 has intensified, with the Kerala High Court granting an interim stay on the film’s release. The movie, which was initially slated to hit theatres on February 27, has now been postponed until further orders from the court.

A bench led by Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas raised strong concerns over the certification granted by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Petitions were filed seeking a halt to the release and cancellation of the censor certificate, arguing that the film could disturb communal harmony and present a distorted image of Kerala.

During the hearing, the court observed that Kerala is known for its secular fabric and peaceful coexistence. It questioned whether these aspects were adequately considered before approving the film.

Since the movie claims to be inspired by real incidents, the court noted that the possibility of misrepresentation and social tension cannot be ignored. The use of Kerala in the title was also flagged, as it could create a sweeping generalisation about the state.

Taking all this into consideration, petitioners argued that the promotional content might provoke unrest and requested changes such as disclaimers or even a title modification. The matter will be heard again soon, as the court seeks to strike a balance between creative freedom and public interest.
