From Nobody To Best Director: Saailu Makes It Big @ Gaddar Awards

Director Saailu Kampati, who made a striking debut with last year’s Raju Weds Rambai, has made it big in this year’s Gaddar Film Awards, announced by the government of Telangana. He was announced as the Best Director at this year’s Gaddar Film Awards for his debut film, a significant achievement in itself.

Saailu, who comes from a modest and humble family in Telangana, is one such director with no formal filmmaking background. All he had was a compelling storyline. After struggling to find a producer for a long time, Saailu finally found the right person to bankroll his film in the form of filmmaker Venu Udugula. Both of them, with the support of ETV Win, managed to make Raju Weds Rambai on a modest budget.

Before the film’s release, Saailu threw a challenge at the pre-release event, stating that he would roam naked in the streets of Ameerpet if the film failed at the box office. While some called it overconfidence, his statement definitely increased the buzz around the film. When it was released, Raju Weds Rambai managed to garner a positive response from the audience. Especially the climax portion shocked the audience and proved to be the major USP of the film.

Despite having no filmmaking background, Saailu managed to deliver a compelling film that did well at the box office. Apart from Best Director, Raju Weds Rambai also won Best Film, Best Actor Jury (Chaitanya Jonnalagadda), and Best Playback Singer Male (Anurag Kulkarni – “Rambai Nee Meeda”) awards at the Gaddar Film Awards this year.

With these major wins, Saailu once again made it to the headlines. Now, all eyes are on his second feature film, and we have to see what he has in store for us this time.
