VFX Technicians Deciding the Fate of Big Films?

Nowadays, it is hard to find films without VFX or CG effects. Almost every director is relying on them to enhance the quality of the visuals to give a better viewing experience. The makers of big-budget films in particular are spending a major chunk of their budgets on CGI technicians to bring the best output.

But, it is often the cinematographer who faces the brunt of box office failures whenever the visual effects do not live up the expectations of moviegoers. This is because of the common misconception that a cinematographer solely finalizes every frame after the director confirms a shot on sets.

Senior cameraman of Tollywood Chota K Naidu has now opened about the role of cinematographer and how CGI technicians are calling shots for films with VFX laden episodes. During his media interaction today, Chota has clarified that a cameraman has no big role in the success and failure of such films because a dedicated technician is being hired by directors to get the desired visuals.

Chota further openly admitted that even experienced cinematographers are blindly following the instructions of these CGI technicians and extending cooperation in order to avoid any criticism for poor output after the film’s release. He also stated that no frame is being removed these days without the knowledge of the CGI technician, who has become an indispensable part of the director’s team.

Talking about his upcoming magnum opus Vishwambhara, which is headlined by Megastar Chiranjeevi, Chota went on to reveal that he is following the same strategy because the film is being made on a huge span with a staggering 400 Crores budget.

Chota K Naidu is one of the most experienced technicians who worked as cinematographer for numerous films. His startling revelations clearly hint that CGI technicians are playing a crucial role in deciding the fate of VFX heavy films. This could also be the reason why such films are taking considerable time to complete the shooting formalities.

Previously, CGI technicians were just a part of a director’s team and used to give valuable inputs. But, they now seem to play a big role just like a director in finalizing the scenes. This also raises a serious doubt whether his involvement will sync with the movie’s theme or will his ideas and control twist the entire outcome just for the sake of VFX effects.
