Toxic makes a lucky escape!

Ranveer Singh’s patriotic spy thriller Dhurandhar 2 is smashing records left right and centre in all territories after its release last Thursday. The sequel has now screamed past the 500 Crores mark by the end of three days and eyes bigger milestones in the coming days due to the unanimous feedback from moviegoers.

As Dhurandhar 2 continues its record breaking spree at the box office, trade circles believe that Yash’s Toxic made a lucky escape by pulling out of the clash just a few weeks before its release. Toxic was the first film to announce March 19 as the release date to cash in on the crucial Eid festival due to the long weekend advantage. However, Dhurandhar 2 locked the same date just after the release of the first part.

As both Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic have wrapped up shooting formalities well in advance, the clash appeared inevitable with both teams going ahead with their release plans. But, the makers of Toxic came up with a shocking decision in the last minute to postpone the film by two more months.

Though Yash and his team cited the ongoing escalations in middle East as the primary reasons for the sudden postponement, many felt that they decided to move out in order to avoid clash with Dhurandhar 2 which is carrying stupendous craze among audiences.

As Toxic needs to perform well in all languages due to the high budget and other commercial factors, the makers felt that it is unsafe to have a head on clash with the sequel. They accessed the impact of Dhurandhar 2 well in advance and pushed the date without going for prestige or ego.

Looking at the way Dhurandhar 2 is creating absolute mayhem at the box office, Toxic would have faced the consequences had it released on the same date. No doubt Toxic might have secured solid openings in Kannada, but Hindi and Telugu markets could have been impacted badly.

Dhurandhar 2 is dominating both North circuits and South territories with no signs of slowing down. Even B and C centers are registering phenomenal occupancies. So, the makers of Toxic can now heave a sigh of relief for taking a smart decision.

Director by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic stars and ensemble cast in the form of Nayanthara, Rukmini Vasanth and few others in important roles. The film will now arrive in theatres on June 4 and hope to have a solo release with no big competition from other upcoming biggies.
