Many industries, including filmmaking, are experiencing drastic transformation with the advent of Artificial Intelligence. Many filmmakers across the world are adapting to AI technology to give life to their ideas. Earlier, what could be achieved by spending crores can now be done at a much lesser cost with the help of AI.
People within the film industry have different opinions on whether AI will take over the filmmaking process. Producer Supriya Yarlagadda has an interesting take on it. When asked whether AI will be a threat to the existing filmmaking technologies, Supriya gave an interesting answer.
It is already known that Annapurna Studios, owned by the Akkineni family, is run by Supriya Yarlagadda as its Executive Director has started a Motion Capture (mocap) studio facility in Hyderabad.
Many breathtaking sequences of SS Rajamouli’s upcoming epic, Varanasi, are being shot here. In a recent interview with Gulte during the promotions of her film Dacoit, Supriya was asked, after investing so much and building such a massive, path-breaking technological space in Hyderabad, whether she considers AI a threat to mocap technology.
Responding to the same, Supriya said that it all depends on the creative minds who make the film and who consume the film. “It all depends on the ideas of the person who is making the film. If he wants to make a film with AI, he will. If he wants to make a film with mocap, he can, and if he wants to make a film on negative, he can. All three are happening at the same time. It is a transaction between the creative mind that is making the film and watching the film.”
“Will I watch a Nolan film that is entirely made on a negative with no VFX? Yes, I will. Will I watch an Avatar which was made with the best possible technology? Yes, I will. Technology is just a tool to that creative mind,” she added.
