Ramayana vs Varanasi Debate Brings Kalki into the Spotlight

The ongoing debate around Ramayana has unexpectedly brought Kalki 2898 AD back into the spotlight. After the teaser of Ramayana received mixed reactions, particularly criticism over a few VFX shots, film lovers, especially from the South, began drawing comparisons with other big-budget spectacles.

Many pointed to S. S. Rajamouli’s approach, highlighting that beyond budgets, conviction and clarity of vision play a crucial role. His Varanasi pre-visualization glimpse was widely appreciated and faced minimal criticism, reinforcing the idea that execution matters as much as scale.

Amid this discussion, Kalki 2898 AD has emerged as a benchmark. Being mounted on a massive budget, the film was largely praised for its visual effects and CG quality, with very few complaints from audiences regarding the screenplay.

Interestingly, this renewed conversation has turned into free publicity for Kalki, especially as work on its sequel has already begun. The film’s technical strengths are once again being acknowledged, keeping it relevant in public discourse.

In a way, the Ramayana debate has only strengthened Kalki’s standing as a visual spectacle done right. The shooting of the sequel has already gone on floors and Nag Ashwin is leaving no stone unturned to make this film a smash hit.
