Third Simham In GPS: JD Chakravarthy

JD Chakravarthy, who had taken a brief break from films, is finally back with Tharun Bhascker’s upcoming flick Gaayapadda Simham, slated for release next week on May 1. Directed by Kashyap Srinivas, the film is billed as a new-age entertainer that breaks away from formulaic storytelling.

JD Chakravarthy plays the role of the brutal Dharma. The actor reveals that his character carries two distinct shades in the film. “Usually, a character has one shade in the first half and another in the second. But here, the same character appears consistent on the surface across both halves, while simultaneously revealing two different shades. That aspect really excited me. You’ll have to watch the film to understand how it works. I wouldn’t say I struggled much to achieve it—the strength and magic were already embedded in the writing.”

He describes GPS as a director’s film. “Kashyap has solid experience with short films and web series. I really liked his style- he’s very confident. We have several directors acting in the film- myself, Tharun Bhascker, and Pawan Sadineni, but Kashyap executed the film exactly as he envisioned it. We didn’t interfere with inputs. When I first heard the story, I found it extremely funny- I couldn’t stop laughing throughout the narration.”

The actor also revealed another surprise character in the movie. “In this film, Tharun Bhascker is wounded, I am wounded, and there’s another Simham (lion) who is wounded as well. We’ll reveal who that is soon. The story has been presented in a very fresh way. The way Dharma, Tharun Bhascker’s character, and another key role intersect makes it quite intriguing.”

The film is already carrying positive buzz, and the team is set to unveil the theatrical trailer soon.
