KGF star Yash’s long delayed pan-India biggie ‘Toxic’ is yet to see the light of the day due to repeated postponements. The gangster drama is supposed to hit the screens on June 4 after getting pushed from March 19. But, the makers postponed it again indefinitely, leaving fans and trade circles disappointed.
In fact, nothing went its way from the beginning as the production faced numerous challenges throughout the three year period. The promotional content sparked a few controversies and created some noise around the film all over the country. But, there has been no proper buzz that matched the scale of a pan-India project.
Even when the team initially locked March 19 as the release date, there was no big hype for the film. Luckily, it got postponed in the last minute and escaped the Dhurandhar 2 storm at the box office. There was considerable criticism as the film backed out from the race out of fear.
In the meantime, whatever little buzz the film has slowly started to fizzle out as the team could not come up with any exciting content to engage the audiences. Amid all this, they announced June 4 as the new date. Still, there is no momentum due to lack of any promotions.
In another shocking development, the film has been postponed again, much to the frustration of moviegoers. It could have been an ideal date, but lack of buzz might have prompted the team to opt for a different date.
While they have not announced any new date, the buzz continues to fade away due to all the confusion and uncertainty over the release plans.
Overall, it has now been nearly three years since the project was first announced. Due to the inordinate delay, the budget keeps mounting because of interest rates and other expenses. All these negative aspects will have a big blow on the box office outcome if the team fails to amplify the hype before its release.
Though Yash became a pan-India superstar with KGF 2, the current market scenario is quite different from what it was few years ago. Many big budget films are struggling to recoup their investment. So, Yash will need to do the magic with his stardom for Toxic to create more buzz all over so that the openings will be massive in all territories.
It all now depends on how well both Yash and his team handle the crisis and move forward. At least they should plan some aggressive promotions to reignite the hype on the film.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas and produced by KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups features Yash, Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria.
