Theaters Empty, Big Producers Seek GO for ₹1000 Tickets

A key meeting is going to happen on 12th of this month to discuss the Percentage System for Theaters. It was initially supposed to happen today but was pushed to 12th.

We all know Mythri and some active producers are opposing the demand of the Exhibitors while Exhibitors say at least 40% of the Single Screens will shut down in an year if the Percentage System is not implemented immediately.

SVC and Asian Group boycotted Mythri’s Jetlee initially and a meeting was proposed on 12th so as to resolve the issue before the release of Ram Charan’s Peddi on June 4th which is also presented by Mythri Movie Makers.

Key meetings have been happening in Guild and Producers Council in preparation to this meeting. But then, we are told that these meetings were more about the Problems of the Big films than important issues pertaining to the Industry.

Big Producers are planning to approach the Andhra Pradesh & Telangana Govts to give a Flexible Rates G.O.

Once given, Ticket Rates can be priced anywhere between 100 to 1000 Rupees without G.O.s for every film separately.

They are also vehemently opposing the proposed 6 Weeks or 8 Weeks OTT Windows saying that it is not at all feasible for them.

In fact, a couple of producers reportedly openly declared that they are ready to give their films to OTT in third week itself if they get 1-2 Crore Rupees Extra.

They say even the big star films are winding up by the end of Second Weekend and it makes no sense to stop OTT release beyond that.

When the entire ecosystem wants to break the 4 Weeks OTT window, the big producers seems to be keen on three weeks if they get extra money.

Audiences are not coming to the theaters now and at this time, it is suicidal to bring G.O. allowing Flexible Pricing.

It will be disastrous PR for the industry and we will see pricing with no method of madness. This will only distance the audience further from the audiences.

Sources also say that the Big Producers are not at all willing to allow Percentage System. In all probability, they will say the same in the 12th Meeting.

It has to be seen how the Exhibitors will respond to this especially with Peddi ahead.
