1400Cr Movie Made Only 6Cr At Box Office?

Saudi Arabia’s ambitious historical epic Desert Warrior has turned into one of the biggest box-office disasters in recent cinema history. Mounted on a massive budget reportedly close to ₹1400 crore ($150 million), the film has earned barely around ₹6 crore worldwide, making it a colossal commercial failure.

Directed by Rupert Wyatt and starring Anthony Mackie and Ben Kingsley, the film was envisioned as Saudi Arabia’s grand entry into large-scale Hollywood-style filmmaking.

The movie was backed by Saudi-funded studios and heavily promoted as a landmark production meant to showcase the kingdom’s growing entertainment ambitions.

However, audiences simply did not connect with the film. Critics slammed its weak storytelling, confusing screenplay, and lack of emotional depth. Despite releasing in more than 1,000 theaters across North America, the film managed an embarrassingly poor opening, averaging less than $500 per screen.

Production troubles, creative conflicts, delays, and poor marketing further damaged the film’s prospects. Industry experts now describe Desert Warrior as a cautionary tale about how enormous budgets and star power alone cannot guarantee success.

Instead of launching a cinematic revolution, the film has become a symbol of spectacular financial miscalculation.
