Alia Bhatt Gets Trolled For Her ‘Male Centric’ Comments

Alia Bhatt is facing heavy trolling on social media after her recent comments at the Cannes Film Festival about male-centric Indian cinema. During an interaction, Alia questioned why Indian filmmakers still focus heavily on films targeted toward male audiences despite the global success of women-led movies.

Her remarks quickly triggered a wave of backlash online, with many netizens accusing her of hypocrisy. Several moviegoers argued that in Indian cinema, especially in commercial Bollywood and South Indian films, a movie’s theatrical success largely depends on the male superstar.

According to many users, audiences primarily visit theatres for the hero, while actresses receive equal praise during success but rarely face the same level of criticism when films fail at the box office.

Social media users pointed out that actors often carry the burden of box office pressure, fan expectations, and negativity after flops. The criticism intensified because Alia had earlier praised Animal, starring her husband Ranbir Kapoor, a film often criticized for its aggressive male-centric narrative.

Many users also questioned her silence on films like Dhurandhar while speaking about gender imbalance in cinema. Despite the trolling, some fans defended Alia, saying her concerns about representation in Indian cinema are still valid.
