Alia Bhatt’s upcoming action thriller Alpha is set to introduce a fresh direction for the YRF Spy Universe by moving away from the familiar India-Pakistan cooperation storyline often seen in spy films. Recent reports suggesting that the film revolves around an Indian and Pakistani agent teaming up for a mission have been dismissed by sources associated with the project.
Unlike previous entries in the franchise, Alpha will reportedly focus on the origin story of Alia Bhatt’s character, who is not a spy but an assassin. The film follows a young woman raised from childhood to become a highly skilled killing machine.
Shaped by a difficult upbringing and trained to trust no one, she becomes a dangerous lone operative whose journey forms the narrative’s emotional and action-packed core. Sources claim that the movie deliberately avoids themes of India-Pakistan friendship, diplomatic reconciliation, or joint intelligence operations. Many opined that they opted this strategy post Dhurandhar success.
Instead, the story is expected to highlight India’s determination and strength in confronting its enemies independently. This creative shift is being viewed as a bold move by producer Aditya Chopra, who appears keen to expand the spy universe with more unconventional and morally complex characters.
Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha also stars Sharvari, Bobby Deol, and Anil Kapoor. The film is scheduled to release on July 3, 2026. One needs to see how all this pans out in the days to come.
