Singeetham Is Important For This Generation, It’s Timeless: Nag Ashwin

Nag Ashwin has expressed unwavering confidence in Sing Geetham, describing it as one of the most unusual and emotionally rewarding films he has been associated with. Directed by the legendary Singeetham Srinivasa Rao, the movie is set for release tomorrow, with premieres today.

“I have immense respect and devotion towards him. His ideas are unlike anything else. Only Singeetham can come up with concepts this unconventional,” says Nag Ashwin.

The film is set in a village struck by a strange curse that makes people communicate through songs. While the premise sounds experimental, Nag believes audiences will quickly connect with the story and characters.

The makers faced enormous challenges in execution. Every line had to be written in a way that sounded like everyday speech while still fitting into musical structure. After composing and recording the tracks, actors had to perform precisely according to those rhythms. Maintaining that timing throughout the film proved to be one of the toughest aspects of production.

Music director Devi Sri Prasad played a crucial role in shaping the experience. Nag Ashwin revealed that DSP dedicated himself completely to the project, spending weeks perfecting every detail. “Films like this rarely come along. Devi treated it as a special challenge and ensured everything was done right.”

The filmmaker also praised the commitment of the entire cast and crew. Although the film features many newcomers, he believes viewers will never feel they are watching inexperienced actors. Extensive rehearsals and preparation helped elevate every performance.

Nag Ashwin noted that the title logo itself carries Singeetham’s personal signature, reflecting how deeply involved the veteran filmmaker was in every stage of the project. Though he did not physically direct every aspect, Nag said Singeetham effectively guided the film throughout its creation.

Importantly, he emphasized that Sing Geetham was designed exclusively for the theatrical experience. “We always make films for theatres. This was never the kind of project made with streaming platforms in mind,” he stated.

The film has a runtime of 2 hours and 10 minutes, but Nag believes audiences will walk away discussing far more than its songs and music. “After the first shows, people won’t be talking about the musical format. They will talk about its heart and soul. Sing Geetham is very important for this generation. This film is timeless.”

He predicts the film will leave viewers both entertained and emotional. “People will laugh, enjoy themselves, and by the time they step out of the theatre, there will be tears in their eyes.”
