Tollywood’s Top Singer Sunitha Defines Real Feminism

Tollywood’s one of the top singers Sunitha sat with Gulte for a candid and interesting conversation that touched upon music, women in cinema, freedom, feminism and the challenges faced by female artists in the industry.

One of the most talked about portions of the conversation was her take on dressing freedom. Sunitha said the debate around what women wear is often misunderstood. According to her, true freedom is not about proving a point through dressing choices but about feeling safe, respected and free from judgment.

She observed that many discussions today reduce feminism to slogans and social media arguments. While everyone has the right to make personal choices, she believes the larger issue is whether society creates an environment where those choices are respected.

Sunitha also spoke about objectification in cinema and said responsibility does not lie with one person alone. Directors, writers, actors and even society play a role in shaping how women are portrayed on screen.

The singer made an interesting point on feminism. In her view, feminism is not about constantly asserting rights over others. Instead, it is about mutual respect, understanding and acceptance between men and women.

She stressed that equality does not mean both genders must be treated identically in every situation. What matters is fairness, dignity and recognition of individual choices without prejudice.

Having spent more than three decades in the industry, Sunitha’s views come from experience. Her comments offered a balanced perspective, highlighting that acceptance of a woman’s opinion and choices is perhaps the most meaningful form of feminism.
