Will Venky Atluri Revive Weekday Family Audiences?

Director Venky Atluri has made some thought-provoking remarks about the changing movie-going culture, saying filmmakers have become too focused on opening weekend collections while overlooking family audiences who traditionally visit theatres during weekdays.

In one of the interviews, promoting the film Vishwanath And Sons, Venky said the film industry has prioritised Friday, Saturday and Sunday box-office numbers, gradually forgetting the importance of Monday to Thursday audiences.

“I wanted family audiences to come back to theatres. We have ignored Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, taking Friday, Saturday and Sunday too seriously. Usually, families come to theatres during weekdays. For me, Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020) was that kind of film. We had Super Good Films. I wanted to make a film in the style of Vikraman sir and SP Muthuraman sir,” he said.

Venky’s comments highlight his desire to revive wholesome family entertainers that encourage audiences of all age groups to return to cinemas, rather than relying solely on weekend footfalls.

Starring Suriya and Mamitha Baiju in the lead roles, Vishwanath And Sons is a family drama laced with humour and romance. The film is slated for a theatrical release on August 14.
