Thalapathy Vijay’s new and last film, Jana Nayagan, is in theatres now. The film was released yesterday and opened to a negative response. Although the Tamil version opened to a good response, the feedback from Telugu audiences is not positive.
Altogether, the film grossed over 80 Cr rupees at the box office, which is a combined number for all versions. The fans expected a gross amount of 100 Cr rupees so that it would have been a hat-trick achievement for the actor. However, the milestone moment was missed.
Vijay’s Jana Nayagan was launched amid huge buzz, and when they confirmed it was Vijay’s last film, there was genuine interest in the film. However, Telugu audiences lost interest after they learned it was the remake of Bhagavanth Kesari. Director Anil Ravipudi also participated in the Telugu promotions to convey to audiences that many changes had been made to the Tamil version. Even then, the reception from the Telugu audiences is not upto the mark.
In general, audiences have many complaints with the film itself. In particular, the changes made to the film did not go over well with audiences. Many opined that the film would have worked had they made it as is, without any changes. The team added a lot of unnecessary politically beneficial elements in the second half, which played the spoilsport.
Moreover, the film was leaked online, and the same print was later uploaded to the pirated sites. A lot of people might have already witnessed the film, creating no demand for the film in theatres now. A stronger focus on promotions, especially in the Telugu market, might have at least drawn more people to theatres, improving the collections.
Mamitha Baiju and Pooja Hegde are a part of the film. H Vinoth is the film’s director.
