Janaki’s Rare Connection With Four CMs

Veteran actress Sowcar Janaki has passed away in Chennai at the age of 94. With her death, South Indian cinema has lost one of its most respected actresses, who had a remarkable career spanning more than seven decades.

Janaki made her acting debut with the 1950 Telugu film Sowcar, directed by LV Prasad and starring NTR. The movie became such an important part of her career that she came to be popularly known as Sowcar Janaki.

One of the most interesting things about her long career is her connection with four former Chief Ministers. Janaki acted alongside NTR, who later became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. She also worked with Tamil Nadu political leaders and actors MGR, M Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa, who later served as Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu.

This makes her career particularly special, as she worked in films with four personalities who went on to become Chief Ministers.

Janaki acted in more than 400 films across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi. She successfully played different kinds of roles during different stages of her career, moving from heroine roles to strong character roles.

Her contribution was not limited to cinema. She was also associated with radio and theatre and earned recognition for her talent and versatility.

Sowcar Janaki may no longer be with us, but her long journey in cinema and her unique connection with four Chief Ministers will remain a memorable part of South Indian film history.
