Can Filmmakers Work With RGV Without Producer’s Approval?

Director Ram Gopal Varma is in fresh legal trouble. The eccentric filmmaker, who isn’t new to the controversies, has landed in a major financial dispute this time. It is with Eclatant Films Pvt Limited. The production house has issued a public notice demanding an outstanding payment of Rs. 29.67 crore from RGV.

The public notice, published in the October 24 and 31, 2026 editions of Atul Mohan’s Complete Cinema magazine, states that the company had sent a legal notice to RGV on October 15, asking him to clear outstanding dues of Rs. 29,67,64,000. Interestingly, this amount includes Rs. 11.38 crore in accumulated interest.

According to the notice, the dispute is related to an agreement signed between both parties on April 10, 2010. The company has also referred to an order passed by the Bombay High Court on April 17, 2013, in connection with the agreement.

Eclatant Films has reportedly given RGV a deadline of October 30, 2026, to settle the outstanding amount. If he fails to make the payment, the production house has warned that it will exercise its contractual rights over his share, interests, revenues and exploitation rights in the films and projects covered under the agreement.

The company has also cautioned producers, distributors, broadcasters and OTT platforms against entering into transactions involving RGV without obtaining its prior written approval, wherever required under the agreement.

As per the claims made in the notice, RGV is also required to obtain a prior written No-Objection Certificate from the Eclatant Films before associating with third parties or taking up activities related to film production, co-production, direction or writing until the dues are cleared.

Meanwhile, it further warned that any parties entering into such transactions with RGV without the required NOC would do so at their own risk and it’ll be subjected to their legal actions.

Director Ram Gopal Varma is yet to respond to this public notice of the Eclatant Films.
