Drishyam 2 Remake: Challenges For Venky!

Mohan Lal’s Drishyam sequel is slowly emerging as one of the most-watched movies on OTT. The sequel for 2013’s original Drishyam is an enthralling OTT audience with little lag but a gripping narration towards the second half. While it is the most difficult task for a director to come up with a strong tale and telling which should be better and thrilling than the first part. We should say the director Jeethu Joseph scored the brownie here. The movie is now being made in Telugu and probably other languages soon. But, here is the catch.

Just like the first part remade in Telugu with Venkatesh, the second part is also announced and would be soon starting the shoot. But, there are movie buffs who feel that Venkatesh’s Drishyam sequel may not entice the audience as the first one did in Telugu. There are many reasons for that.

Back then when the original in Malayalam was released, there was only a little audience from Telugu who watched Mohan Lal’s movie through different piracy sources, while many watched Venkatesh’s Telugu version in theaters. Things have changed now with a larger section of the audience watching the world cinema in their living room, thanks to the global pandemic and lockdown due to it. Language is no longer a barrier with OTT movies and all that the audience need is the subtitles. Talking of OTT films, the Telugu audience got much impressed by much Malayalam content in the lockdown time.

Knowing that Drishyam is a scene-to-scene remake of the original, many Telugu audience already watched Drishyam 2 on Amazon prime with the subtitles. The gratification and the thrill they felt when watching the Malayalam version is nothing less of a Telugu version, that too when nine out of ten OTT releases are patience-testers around.

Well, when the theaters are fully open and the audience thronging in, Drishyam 2 in Telugu may get a great response, but the impact of Mohan Lal’s Drishyam 2 on it can’t be denied.  We will have to see how Venky beats all the odds to pull the audience to watch his acumen.
