Kajal And Tamannaah Failed. What About Samantha?

OTT platforms have become the major sources of entertainment for the last one year. Thanks to COVID-19 and the lockdown, many OTT platforms have witnessed a huge surge in new subscriptions. With the increase in popularity of web platforms, many actors are showing interest in entering the web space. The trend has become evident in Bollywood way before the lockdown but down the south, actors are showing interest only after the pandemic happened. Top actresses of South India, Kajal Aggarwal and Tamannaah Bhatia, made their OTT debuts recently. However, their debut shows failed to entertain audiences and remained flops.

Kajal Aggarwal made her digital debut with Hotstar’s original series Live Telecast. Touted to be a horror-comedy, this series was helmed by prominent Tamil director Venkat Prabhu. It also included other actors like Vaibhav and Aanandhi. The series was released amid huge expectations but ended up as a disappointment. Even in one of her interviews, Kajal mentioned that the series was not up to the mark and agreed that they haven’t satisfied the audiences. The Magadheera actress is not acting in any web show or film as of now.

Tamannaah entered into the digital space with Aha’s original series 11th hour. Directed by Praveen Sattaru of Guntur Talkies and Garuda Vega fame, this series was premiered on April 9. The team made heavy promotions for this series that are no less than the movie campaign. But the response to the series was very stale. Neither critics nor viewers have enjoyed it. Meanwhile, Tamannaah is also acting in another web series called November Story. This show will premiere on Hotstar soon. We have to see if it gives a break for Tamannaah in the web space.

Other actresses like Nitya Menen and Payal Rajput have also debuted into webspace but didn’t get a good response. While Prime Video’s Breathe didn’t help Nitya in any way, Payal’s OTT film Anaganaga O Athidhi ended up as a flop. The RX100 beauty is currently acting in another web series of Aha.

Now, all eyes are on Samantha Akkineni, who is making her debut with Season 2 of the popular series, The Family Man. The first season was a huge hit and there are a lot of expectations on season 2. Samantha is playing the role of an antagonist in this Prime Video original. The Family Man Season 2 was supposed to release in February but was postponed. It is being heard that the show will now premiere in May. We have to see if Samantha scores a hit with her OTT debut or joins the list of Kajal and Tamannaah.
