#ShameOnYouSamantha Trends Ahead Of Family Man 2 Release

The problems for the Amazon Prime Video series The Family Man 2 don’t seem to be dying even as the release date nears. As we know, following the release of Family Man 2 trailer, an enormous fury and disapproval sparked on social media where the Tamil audience expressed their indignation over it. After demanding a ban on the release of the series (June 4), #ShameonYouSamantha is now trending.

A section of Tamil speaking audience has expressed their anger with the makers of the series. “By releasing this web series FamilyMan2 in Hindi psychologically they try to portray Tamils as a Terrorist in Hindi Speaking peoples Mind,” wrote one user. The trailer of the series has already evoked strong and widespread opposition from the people of Tamil Nadu and political parties in the state. Now the trending hashtag explains how the series might suffer a setback.

“As a person from Chennai, you should have to know the sentiments of the Tamil people. As a fan, really disappointed in you mam,” reads another comment while adding #ShameonYouSamantha tag. Some people even demanded that Samantha should never return to Kollywood.

The Objection: The Tamil Nadu government had earlier requested the Centre to take immediate action either to stop or ban the release of the Manoj Bajpayee and Samantha Akkineni starrer, saying it depicted the Eelam Tamils in a “highly objectionable manner.” Claiming there were “condemnable, inappropriate and malicious contents” in the serial, IT Minister T Mano Thangaraj said the trailer released by Amazon Prime Video on social media was aimed at discrediting and distorting the historical struggle of the Eelam Tamils in Sri Lanka. In another part of the two-page letter, the state government also objected to the casting of Tamil actor Samantha Akkineni as a terrorist. “Branding Tamil-speaking actress Samantha as a terrorist in the serial is directly an attack on the pride of Tamils living around the world and no one will tolerate this kind of motivated and mischievous campaign,” the letter read.

How did the makers and cast react: “Some assumptions and impressions have been made based on just a couple of shots in the trailer. Many of our lead cast members, as well as key members of the creative & writing team, are Tamilians. We are very cognizant of the sentiments of the Tamil people and Tamil culture and have nothing but the utmost love and respect towards our Tamil people,” said Raj & DK, the show directors. They added, “We have put in years of hard work into this show, and we have taken great pains to bring to our audiences a sensitive, balanced, and riveting story – much like we did in Season 1 of the show. We request everyone to wait and watch the show when it releases. We know you’ll appreciate it once you watch it.”

Also, the lead man in the series, actor Manoj Bajpayee reiterated how the show has been created by a team dominated by Stars from South , including directors, Raj and DK, actors Priyamani and Samantha Akkineni, and writer Suman, who have great regard for the Tamil culture. “The team leaders and cast have done everything possible to show their respect for Tamil culture and sensibilities. This is one series that believes in diversity. It not only tells you a good story but it also shows how proud the makers are of Tamil culture and sensibilities,” he said.

In the trailer of the series, we see Samantha Akkineni essaying the role of Raji, a rebel, who has an ulterior motive against the government and Srikant Tiwari(Manoj Bajpayee) puts efforts to stop her from leading the anti-establishment force. The Family Man2 is set to premiere tomorrow, on June 4. The first season of the spy thriller, which started streaming on Amazon Prime Video on September 20, 2019, became an instant hit with fans.
