Hyd Hunter Upset With Vidya Balan’s Sherni

Vidya Balan’s Sherni is one of the recent releases in Bollywood. The film skipped a theatrical release for a direct OTT release on Amazon Prime Video. Now, the film has fallen into controversy with India’s celebrated hunter Nawab Shafath Ali Khan sending a legal notice to the film’s producers.

Although the production unit never promoted that the film is based on real incidents, it has now become a discussion on social media. The film depicts the hunt of tigress Avani that was shot dead in Yavatmal district in Maharashtra in 2018. Hyderabad’s hunter Nawab Shafath Ali Khan along with his son Asgar carried out the operation but the film shows a different person who is a hawan participant Pintuji. There are a lot of people raising objections that the makers showed a Hindu as the hunter but in reality, it was a Muslim. On the other hand, they depicted the District Forest Officer as a Christian but in reality, it was a Hindu. Apart from this religious conflict, there seem to be many factual errors.

The original hunter duo Nawab Shafath Ali Khan and Asgar had orders from Maharashtra Government to neutralize what they called ‘man eater’ Tigress Avni. Nawab Ali Khan revealed that a notice has been issued to makers following the trailer. “The directors said it was purely for entertainment purposes. However the outcome shows factual errors, there was no political motive and we were invited to neutralize Avni,” he said.
