Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, the first Indian astronaut to travel to the International Space Station (ISS), shared a few stunning visuals of Hyderabad and Bengaluru at night from space. Addressing a large gathering at an event in New Delhi, Shubhanshu Shukla played a rare video he captured while orbiting over the two metro cities during his space voyage.
The video also offered a glimpse of the beautiful sunrise over the orbit, a celestial sight that Shubhanshu Shukla described as “a sight you saw 16 times a day and you never really get bored.” “What you would see is the earth upside down, and the green glow that you see is prevalent in the upper layers of the atmosphere because of oxygen atoms. We would be passing over India,” he further explained.
Shubhanshu Shukla, only the second Indian to make a space journey after the legendary Rakesh Sharma, returned to Earth in July after an 18-day space sojourn as part of the Axiom Mission 4. During this mission, for 18 days, he carried out seven experiments that were prepared by the Indian researchers.
Subhanshu Shukla began his journey with the Indian Air Force before heading to the ISS. He was felicitated along with three other astronauts who would go for India’s next manned space mission, Gaganyaan, by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh at the Air Force Auditorium in Subroto Park in New Delhi.
