Elon Musk Fuels Boycott Netflix Trend, Here’s Why!

‘Cancel Netflix’ became trending on X after billionaire and X owner Elon Musk himself made the post. On Wednesday and Thursday, Tesla CEO made repeated calls on X, urging people to cancel their Netflix subscriptions. He made the post after he cancelled his own subscription to the streaming platform while doubling down on it.

The row over Netflix erupted after Musk reshared a post from a user, who said that he cancelled his Netflix subscription as the company employed “someone who celebrated the murder of Charlie Kirk.” Musk became angry at Netflix after Hamish Steele, the creator of the animated Netflix series ‘Dead End: Paranormal Park’, streaming on Netflix, made some comments about conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was recently shot dead.

Charlie Kirk, a right-wing activist, was shot and killed on September 10, during a public interaction. His funeral drew thousands of people, including Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump.

Musk’s Outrage Agaisnt Netflix

In August, Steele posted a post laced with expletives on Bluesky targeting Charlie Kirk. The London-based animation director referred Kirk as a “nazi” and several netizens took exception to Steele mocking at Kirk’s death, and also using offensive language. It may be recalled that Musk also reacted to a social media post criticizing Netflix for employing Steele.

Nuclear scientist Matt Van Swol, former department of energy, also shared that he had cancelled his Netflix subscription. He tweeted: “If you employ someone who celebrated the murder of Charlie Kirk and makes content that pushes pro-trans content on my kids… you will NEVER get a dime of my money.” Musk also responded to the post and wrote, “Same.”

Musk wants to ‘Cancel Netflix’ over discrimination against White people. A post read: “Netflix appears to openly boast about discriminating against White people….. Why doesn’t Netflix hire based on qualifications instead of skin colour??” Musk directly replied to the post and wrote “Cancel Netflix.”

Netizens’ outrage against Steele grew after a clip from his Netflix show ‘Dead End: Paranormal Park’, appeared on X. Many online claimed that the show pushes a “woke” or “transgender” agenda on children. Musk called Steele a “groomer.”
